How do split payments work in a marketplace?
We use Stripe Connect: on every order the payment is divided automatically between the platform and the vendor. Your commission stays with the platform, and the balance is transferred to the vendor’s connected account on the payout schedule you set. No manual settlement runs, and every split is traceable.
How does a new vendor join the platform?
The vendor signs up, completes verification — including the Stripe Connect onboarding that covers identity and payout details — and you approve them from the operator panel. Once activated they fill in their profile, publish listings and manage their orders from a dashboard of their own.
Can I set different commissions per vendor or per category?
Yes. Commissions are configurable: a single platform-wide rate, different rates per product category, or rates negotiated individually with a vendor. The calculation runs automatically on each order and the amount you retain is reflected in the payment split.
What happens to an order containing products from several vendors?
The buyer places one order and makes one payment. Behind the scenes the order is divided per vendor, the payment is split automatically, and each seller receives their part to fulfil and ship. The buyer keeps a single, unified experience and a single order history.
Why run my own marketplace instead of selling on a large platform?
On someone else’s platform you pay the commission, you do not own the customer relationship, and you compete with thousands of sellers on the same page. Your own marketplace gives you the brand, the customer data and control over the commission — you become the platform that collects a commission instead of the one paying it.
How long does it take to launch a marketplace platform?
A marketplace with the essential flows — vendor onboarding, catalog, search, split payments, per-vendor dashboards — takes 6-10 weeks on average, depending on how complex your commission rules and categories are. Special integrations such as multi-vendor shipping or ERP are scoped separately.
Will vendor listings show up in Google?
Yes. Every listing gets Product/Offer structured data (price, availability) that can produce rich results in Google. For maximum reach we also recommend the SEO & GEO service, which targets both classic search and the AI engines that recommend products.
